Travel: New Mexico Native American History

Travel over the prosperous history of New Mexico’s Native American culture.

There is an affirmation that Native Americans have occupied New Mexico for over 2,500 years. Some of these groups often referred to today as the Anasazi, began doing agriculture and established permanent settlements, which are now known as pueblos about 1,500 years ago.

This way of life sustained well until the 19th century for some New Mexican tribes. Visit these monuments, parks, and sites and explore the rich history of New Mexico’s Native American culture.

I’ve been fascinated to history and cultures of many countries so after I Visit Greece, New mexico will be my next  #travelgoals this year. You could visit:

Aztec Ruins National Monument

From the 1100s through 1200s, the Aztec Ruins National Monument in northwest New Mexico maintains structures and artifacts of Ancestral Pueblo people.

Chaco Canyon was the heart of ceremony, trade, and administration for the prehistoric Four Corners area which is a major center of Ancestral Puebloan culture.

Three Rivers Petroglyph Site

One of the few locations in the Southwest is the Three Rivers Petroglyph Site, set aside uniquely because of its rock art. Dating from 900 AD to 1400 AD, it has over 20,000 petroglyphs. This makes it one of the largest and most fascinating petroglyph sites in the Desert Southwest.

Here,  while the tide is still low, you’ll have a chance to visit the natural pools in the morning. The waters are an incredible turquoise color plus take part in a tropical lunch.

As you step into Cairneiros, you’ll realize it is close to a paradise. Enjoy the breathtaking view of white sands and coconut trees hanging over the water. Ride into catamaran or boat trip to reach the beach and the trip are worth it. Enjoy lunch at the beach bar or take a dip in the pool like a sea.

Barcaxeira Restaurant

Barcaxeira Restaurant offers superb food at reasonable price and comes in a tropical ambiance, simple yet tasteful. It is best to do reservation as they get quite full during dinner. Taste their specialty,  the macaxeira gratinada, a pure of mandioca, with cheese and shrimps, or dried meat. Seaview is a bonus experience and they normally offer live music in the nightfall.

Praia de Muro Alto

Praia de Muro Alto offers an image of paradise with calm water, created by a sand wall, natural pool, wonderful coconut trees, and reefs. In this beach lies most hotels and resorts.

Engenho Massangana

This area was once the most vital to the economics of the region, a complex of buildings from the 19th Century, with the main house and the Chapel, the center of the Brazilian production in time. One of the most notable abolitionists — Joaquim Nabuco — when was a child, it is said he lived in this place. The name of the place was taken from the river nearby that was used to flow the production.

Why Visit Maldives?

The Maldives is one of the most beautiful tropical destinations in the world. Its unrivaled beauty and tranquility make it a little piece of heaven on earth. Some of the best hotels and resorts can be found here.  The Maldives is truly a paradise.

The world knows how warm and sunny it is in Maldives, unless it’s the hurricane season. You can find so many beautiful and breath taking photos of this magnificent island all over the internet, but what’s truly interesting is the eclectic mix of unique cultures. It’s what makes Maldives truly beautiful. Here’s more information that you can apply to your life:

Aside from the picturesque islands, and five-star resorts, there are so many other attractions worth discovering in the capital city of Male. You will find museums, mosques and markets in the city.

Experience rich culinary delights in Maldives. You can choose from a variety of cuisines. They serve not just gourmet food, but fresh seafood as well. Try out local restaurants for a taste of authentic Maldivian cuisine. Trying out the different flavors of Maldives is a great experience that you won’t ever forget.

If you want peace and serenity, then Maldives is a great place for you. You can spend quiet and alone time in the islands to meditate and do some soul-searching. If you ever feel like you need to just slow down and rest because life is treating you unkindly, the beach is always a good spot.

Remember the film, Little Mermaid? Yes, life is better under the sea.

Family Traveling

Christmas was yesterday. New Years is next week. These are among the busiest travel days of the year. Thanksgiving, also, was only a few weeks ago. Given that these holidays are so close to each other, families are traveling. What happens when the family sees you, however?

Well, in my case, that’s what has happened this year. And I’m having they are over. Oh yes, they are staying with me! There are a few people at my home. But I only have a couple of bedrooms. So where is everyone staying? Well, I had to get creative.

My first plan to purchase an air mattress. And like many of my ideas, it worked (some don’t!). Christmastime can get stressful with the need to plan many things. We need to think about lodging, food, gifts, and other things. If a family is staying you have to even think about the small things. Think about buying extra toothpaste, having extra shower towels, and even plan for the possible animal, such as a dog. Yes, I say this because I’m in this situation now. And I wouldn’t have it any other way because I love it when family visits.

I don’t have family over every year so I’m enjoying it while they are there. Sometimes I visit them. Sometimes we meet at a separate location altogether, like a winter vacation. One year we spent Christmas in a hotel in the snowy mountains. I was able to snowboard with family which was double the fun.

Traveling for the holidays is a fun experience. Traveling with family is extra fun because of all the great memories being created. One of the most important things is to plan for every major situation, even the small ones. This way, things will be taken care of far in advance!

Rewards While Traveling

Many people don’t realize that there are many benefits to traveling. I’m not talking about sightseeing, trying new foods, or meeting new people. I’m talking about the benefits available to travelers.

These are rewards programs, loyalty cards, mileage cards, and more. Virtually every major hotel has a loyalty program. Don’t believe me? Look it up! Go online to their website or even call them. What happens with a hotel loyalty program? Well, for example, hotels offer free stay if a traveler stays at their hotel a certain number of times. This is a great way to build brand loyalty. If a person stays at a Marriott 5 times, and they get a free room on their 10th stay, where do you think the person will stay on their 6th stay? They will find a Marriott hotel, I’m sure.

These hotel programs are like loyalty cards. Imagine there is a restaurant in a town the person visits. It’s a unique restaurant, and they only get to eat there when they are on their trip. Well, that restaurant may give the diner a loyalty card. Every tenth meal could be free!

Let’s talk mileage cards. I’m specifically talking about airlines here. Just about every major airline has a partnership with a credit card company. This is how it works. The airlines, let’s say United, partners with Visa. It looks like a Visa credit card. It is one, actually. But it caters to United Airlines. It’s a mileage card! Every dollar that the owner spends counts toward one mile on a flight is a great deal! This means that just about every year a person could possibly get a free flight somewhere. As a matter of fact, now that I’m writing about this, I might open a mileage card to get these perks. I’ll have more travel stories to write about!

My First Trip

I remember traveling when I was very young. Now, I don’t have the best memory of my childhood. I loved my childhood though! And I wish I could remember more. I guess I don’t think about it too much. While I do sometimes think of it, I don’t dwell on it. I like to think that my future will be just as good as my childhood. It might even be better!

I don’t remember my first airplane right. Maybe that’s a good thing. I don’t like flying. Maybe it’s because I’ve experienced some extreme turbulence during a storm one time. I’m not a fan! I don’t like lightning to strike right out of my window. If it’s bright on the ground, it’s even brighter when you’re in the sky. The airplane would take me on a vacation though. And I did like that part.

One of my earliest vacations was going to Disneyland. The thing about this trip is that I don’t remember it at all. I don’t even know if I saw Micky Mouse! I do have pictures, at least. When I was a kid, there were no cell phones. Therefore, we did not have like 100 pictures of the trip. There were Kodak cameras at least. There was the disposable kind. I think we had those. And we didn’t bring the family camcorder. You know, the ones that were the size of a brick.

Even though I don’t remember my first trip, maybe it gave me a love of traveling. This isn’t about flying in an airplane! But, today, I absolutely love traveling to new places. When I’m a little bit older, I would love to travel the world. Even though I’ve been to many countries already, there are plenty more to experience. This time, I’ll make sure to bring enough camera storage to really remember the trips.

Mykonos, Greece

One of my favorite trips was to Greece. It’s unlike any place on earth. The country of Greece is actually made up of multiple islands. By multiple, I mean 6,000! That’s a massive number of islands, even if some are very small. Hawaii is made up of a few islands. However, Hawaii is only made up of 8 islands. Hawaii pales in comparison to Greece.

I’ve been to only two Greek islands: Mykonos and Crete. For this post, I’m going to focus solely on Mykonos. Americans have spring break in Cancun, Mexico. However, Europeans have spring break in Mykonos. I think this helps paint a picture of the island.

Going there, you can expect to see many bars, clubs, and young people dancing on beaches. The parties last all day and all night there. There are plenty of hotel pools even though there are beaches everywhere.

Mykonos is very mountainous. On one day, my friends and I decided to climb the mountain. Well, by climb I mean walk up the mountain. There were dirt roads which led up to the top. The mountain was not too high. We were able to reach the top in just over an hour. What was on top? To our surprise, there was a restaurant hidden from view. The food was incredible. The wine was great too. As an appetizer, I ate a big piece of fried cheese which was in the shape of a slice of pizza.

The main colors of Greece are blue and white. Many of the houses were white and had blue roofs. Because Mykonos is a tourist island, there were plenty of tourist shops. I even purchased a painting which was freshly created by a local artisan. If one were to visit a few of the 6,000 Greek islands, I would highly recommend a trip to Mykonos.
